The Art of Arabic Drumming​tm (Middle Eastern Ensemble)
Experience Program

LESSON OUTLINE
Learning to play a Middle Eastern percussion as an ensemble. Student will be taught Basic Middle Eastern rhythms, its meaning and history for better in-depth understanding of the culture and diverse difference in similar rhythm patterns, proper hand strokes and fingerings as well as proper technique of hitting the drums. Here, students will use 3 different categories of Middle Eastern percussion: Frame drums, hand drums and tambourineslike the Darbuka(Middle Eastern hand drum), Dohola (Bass Middle Eastern hand drum) Riq (Middle Eastern tambourine) and Tar (Middle Eastern frame drum). History of the rhythms will also be covered such as the name of the rhythm, its roots and origins. As students learn to play the instruments in groups and review basic Middle Eastern Rhythms, a cooperative learning atmosphere is the objective.
Topics covered:
The rhythm tree of Baladi, Maqsum and Saiidi.
Traditional way of playing Middle Eastern Percussion
Understanding the different types of percussion and its rich history
Drumming exercises in groups

LEARNING OBJECTIVES
- Allowing students to form their own understanding of Middle Eastern rhythm and culture
- Allowing students to find within themselves the thirst for knowledge
- Creating an environment where everyone helps each other changing fixed mindset into growth mindset
- Be able to play a minimum of 4 different rhythms without assistance Understanding of the culture where the rhythms comes from

LESSON OUTLINE
Music lesson coupled with a little History.
Learning to play a Middle Eastern tambourine called the Riq. This is not your average tambourine as there is a very traditional intricate way of playing the Riq. Student will be thought Basic Middle Eastern rhythms, its meaning and history for better in-depth understanding of the culture and diverse difference in similar rhythm patterns, proper hand strokes and fingerings as well as proper technique of hitting the drum. History of the rhythms will also be covered as students learn to play the instruments in groups and review basic Middle Eastern Rhythms to create a cooperative learning atmosphere.

Didgeridoo Dreamtime​tm - Make your own didgeridoo​
Experience program

LESSON OUTLINE
Students learn to make their OWN Didgeridoo and keep it! Students will be provided a blank template of tubes to build their own didgeridoo. Students will be able to create their own designs and patterns to express their own artistic skills. The workshop will begin with an introduction of the unique history and presentation of the Didgeridoo:-
- made from hollowed out eucalyptus tree by termites - short sample performance by instructor
- instrument dates back thousands of years
- usually played by indigenous Australian men for ceremonies
Students will then be provided with materials and essential knowledge tools used to build and design their very own Didgeridoo. Students will be grouped to emphasise on cooperative learning. A short explanation of how to express their creative skills using the blank tubes as a template of their Didgeridoo.
*Students and teachers may opt to choose to perform their newly acquired skills.
​- for performance, an addition of 3 more hours (3 sessions) is required.
